The Department of Mathematics and Statistics was established at the inception of K.C.Das Commerce College on 7th November 1983 with 107 students. The department encourages to nurture certain abilities like logical reasoning, problem solving and abstract thinking. It also tries to impart quality education in the field of Mathematics and Statistics and broaden the outlook of the students in this sphere.
The first whole-time faculty of the department was Dr. Runjun Phookun. She joined the department in the year 1988. At present there are four faculty members with the student strength of the department in H.S level is 150 and in under graduate level it is 600.
The subjects taught in the H.S level are Business Mathematics and Statistics (BMS) and Mathematics. In the under graduate level the subjects taught are Business Statistics and Business Mathematics. There is a departmental library comprising of 280 books.
From the academic session 2020-2021 the department got the permission from Gauhati University to start B.Sc Regular course with the subject combination Mathematics-Statistics-Economics.
The department of Mathematics and Statistics acknowledges the services of Dr. Dhiraj Das, Dr. Anis-Uz-Zaman, Mr. Bapan Kalita, Ms. Darshana Das, Ms. Sneha Chanda, Dr.Anjana Begum for their significant contribution towards the department.
