Department of Assamese – Overview

The Department of Assamese has been a part of K.C. Das Commerce College since its beginning on 30th November 1983. In the early days, Mr. Gadadhar Sarma joined as a part-time teacher in 1983 and supported the department during its starting phase.

In 1987, Ms. Minati Sarma joined as a lecturer and helped the department grow further. Over time, several dedicated teachers contributed to its development, including Mrs. Mamani Devi, Miss Rima Mazindar Baruah, and Miss Anjana Choudhury, whose efforts are remembered with gratitude.

Dr. Dipak Barman joined as a Lecturer on 5th August 1994 and was later promoted to Associate Professor. He worked in the institute until his passing on 26th March 2023.

Current Faculty

At present, the department is led by Dr. Swapna Smriti Mahanta, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, who has been serving since 7th April 1997. She is joined by Debasish Buragohain, Assistant Professor, who started on 16th February 2024. Both continue to guide the department with dedication.
